Dancing Echoes

Beats Stumbling Around in Silence

Father

You and I always seemed to be
On the opposite sides of a bridge
Neither able to cross without it swinging wildly
Tension thick as humid gulf air
Impatience and disappointment our love language

You and I alike in so many ways
So sensitive we each tried to bite first
Both with a stubborn shell of protection
Curiosity for life’s most enigmatic questions our common ground
With expectations released, forgiveness our final passage

Island

Once upon a time
We came across a waterfall
Hidden deep in the woods
Where we splashed and played
Like giddy children
In the argent liquid pools
And let the cool mist
Spray diamonds in our hair
Our warm embrace
A safe haven
As if the whole world
Was just this place
At just this time
Our own private island

Where I Belong

I belong with the fishes
In the cold deep down under
Where my passion is stirred
By the riot of colors
In an undulating sea
Where I am the outlander
In supplication to Poseidon’s
Cerulean domain
Where my body is weightless
My voice silent
And heartbeat strong

Space Needle

Piquant petals
Pierced through an ardent needle
Thrust into heavens

I love the dichotomy between these two wondrous expressions of art. The cold straight steel of the Seattle Space Needle in comparison to the fragile fluid glass of Chihuly. Both are magnificent landmarks in their own rights.
