Dancing Echoes

Beats Stumbling Around in Silence

Hope

Your loneliness was palpable
Bitter regret on my tongue
From all the lessons learned but forgotten
All the forever’s that never happened
I know I was not the salve you wanted
A poor substitute for the lost soul of your dreams
Instead of releasing you, I made it about me
And it was never about me
Yet to forgive myself has been the hardest lesson of all
The beauty in forgiveness is my hope for the future
So I am sorry

I release you

I release myself

Winds of Change

Seeds of love scattered
Blown by winds of emotion
Clouds of teargas

All we have
Is a few short minutes
To be sons and daughters
Fathers and mothers
Friends and lovers
There is no color
No race
No nation
Only humanity
Let us help each other
To live our best lives
In peace and compassion

In response to Patrick Jennings Pic and a Word Challenge #235: Rant!

Harvest

werble-161054f6ba

You want what you can’t have
Reasoning somehow that seems more valuable
Abandoning those who do love you
Because who would want to love you, right?
So you chase phantoms, try to rewrite history
Harvest lost souls like shiny objects, glinting in the sun
All the while they are burning your retina, so you cannot see the truth
The truth that’s been right in front of your face
All along

Lichen Love

Where once there was nothing
Sprouts delicate symbiosis
Emergent energy intertwined
Into nature’s tangled tattings
Blue green as earth’s beginnings
With antediluvian memories
Surrounding us unnoticed
In a lichen lace soliloquy

In response to Patrick Jennings Pic and a Word Challenge #231: Nothing and #232: Emergent

Isolation

On a balmy spring night
Where the gravid pink moon
Pregnant with summer anticipation
Lumbers toward full
While upon the darkly fen
A sign language of love
Flickers in the misty umbra
“I am here”

Sign language of love
In isolated umbra
Fireflies flicker

Awe

Virtual worlds collide
Airwaves replace touch
Community spirit

I am in awe at the resiliency and creative spirit that has come out of this pandemic. In response to Patrick Jennings Pic and a Word Challenge #224: Awe.

Father

You and I always seemed to be
On the opposite sides of a bridge
Neither able to cross without it swinging wildly
Tension thick as humid gulf air
Impatience and disappointment our love language

You and I alike in so many ways
So sensitive we each tried to bite first
Both with a stubborn shell of protection
Curiosity for life’s most enigmatic questions our common ground
With expectations released, forgiveness our final passage

In response to Patrick Jennings Pic and a Word Challenge #197: Fathers

Island

Once upon a time
We came across a waterfall
Hidden deep in the woods
Where we splashed and played
Like giddy children
In the argent liquid pools
And let the cool mist
Spray diamonds in our hair
Our warm embrace
A safe haven
As if the whole world
Was just this place
At just this time
Our own private island
