Numbers

2017-09-20 19.15.31-1

One does wonder
About the number
Of snowflakes in a storm
Or grains of sand on a beach
Drops of water in the ocean
Or stars in the sky
Molecules in our body
Or life in the universe
The number of infinite possibilities
Of mankind
To find the truth
As sentient beings
Are want to do
Rather than be
And the need to know “why”
Is hardwired in our DNA

Mighty Succession

IMG_0712

earth
moves
reform

There is a beauty
In wreck and ruin
Where survival
Is the leading lady
Time worn
But still standing
The scars of violence
Begin to heal
Her pyroclastic flow
Long since dried
But deep down inside
Her core still burns

In response to CARPE DIEM HAIKU KAI: Carpe Diem #1259 creating beauty and The Daily Post: Mighty

This is a photograph of Mt St Helens 37 years after her iconic blast.

Mental Hegira

IMG_0555

As I stand on the precipice
I slow down my brain
Away from the city noise
Listening to my breathing
My steady heartbeat
The wind swirling around me
Carrying the sounds of voices
Ancestors who stood here before me
The caw of the crow
Observing me with amusement
For he already knows
What I am learning
To quiet myself
And let it be

Veil

IMG_0435

My burning desire
Is to cast aside
My veil of self protection
To stand vulnerable
Naked, trembling
No longer transparent
Known
For who I truly am

In the night sky
Blink of an eye
A life passes by
Burning brightly with abandon
