Shimmering stillness
Her aureus memory
Of summer sunsets

Silhouettes in triplicate
Bathed in alluvial glow

I am a scientist by trade and artist by soul. My creative outlet used to be dancing but due to injuries and age, I must now find another path. I am hoping my writing, poetry and photography can be this new path. 1. I love the gold-and-silver shimmer in this photograph. Stunning.

  2. Thank you Mrs Fever. This photo is pretty much the way the sunset was that night. I didn’t need to shop it much at all.

  5. The image is exquisite.

The words, as subtly evasive as the photograph is intense. On a close read, powerfully evocative.

Aureus is new to me. Sweet synonym.

I use alluvial all the time, but never like that. Clever.

<grin> It’s not often I have to look up words.

  6. Thank you. I am honored that I had you look up words because you are one hell of a good wordsmith. I debated alluvial but I thought the sunset looked like liquid gold that had flowed into the bay. I fussed over this one and had struggled with what to say about this photo since I took it in July.

  7. Lovely, sensuous alliteration. This poem is like a beautiful, precisely executed painting.

  8. <smile> I don’t mind admitting I will dig into a thesaurus trying to find just the right word. But getting friendly with Roget won’t find you aureus for golden, nor will it artfully suggest an alluvial golden sunshine deposit. That, my friend, is true word smithing. Molten metal hot. =)
