I am a scientist by trade and artist by soul. My creative outlet used to be dancing but due to injuries and age, I must now find another path. I am hoping my writing, poetry and photography can be this new path. 1. Mmmm…. Such stupendously beautiful skies there are over tropical oceans, with those cumulonimbus clouds reaching up to the heavens, tickling lightning strikes from the Gods, who rumble deeply with their laughter. =)

  2. Heh… that was intended to be, simply, a compliment for both the image and words which demanded it. 😉

Interesting, though, how nature’s fury can be so calming, and so hearteningly inspiring, all at the same time. Beautifully rendered, as always, CJ. 🙂

  3. Ya know… I really love the way this image works with the poem… the deep ‘gloam’ (wonderful word selection!).

For one, I love that while you are so often unafraid of black, this image is almost devoid of it… gloomy without complete darkness, detail — even colour — in the deepest of shadows.

Meanwhile, the hopeful light is but a faint glimmer in a distant cloud, not even as bright as the red warning light.

It is not the light which brings the words out of the gloom, but the cleansing rain.

Hmmmm…. my writer’s group met today. It appears to have gotten me into an appreciatively critique-ish mood. 😉

  6. Photo and tanka are a splendid pair. Also inspirational:
Gloom yields to a flash of light,
in the sky and on the pier.
Rain will rinse the tears of night
and be a better drink than beer.

  7. Rain adds to my depression, unless it is hot and I am on vacation watching it with no hurries or worries.

  8. Awww, I actually like rain storms as long as they aren’t destructive. I guess I like the excuse of being able to curl up with a good book guilt free.
