Note: She is in fact a Brown Widow. Her venom is just as deadly as a Black Widow but her potential delivery is not. I went with the word “black” above because most people are more familiar with her cousin species and well, poetic license. Photo taken in a storm drain.

    Thank you Erich. I am not a fan of things that could kill me and I especially don’t like surprises. This young lady was between us and a water sample so unfortunately she had to move along.

    Thank you. That was a happy accident that I made full use of. The moon looking object is a sample container full of water placed there for testing.

    Oh, I have destroyed a shower curtain trying to avoid a rather large, hairy specimen (by that I mean spider) that was hiding in the tub.

    Thanks for the backstory and Wikipedia link as well as the gorgeous photo and apt poetry.

    The photo would make a good submission to next year’s Weather Channel contest (or to National Wildlife’s annual photo contest).

    Nice call on the brown vs black discernment. Most people (including me) would have seen the hour glass and just “known” that was a black widow. Also love the “cosmos” image-word connection and “gossamer” usage, and “Cradling future”. Densely packed, as always DE!
