Beats Stumbling Around in Silence

It’s Amazing Out There

OK, I despise shameless self-promotion. I have absolutely no problem when other people do it, as a matter of fact, I admire it. But this “It’s Amazing Out There” photo contest is important to me so I am going to suck it up and post this. Part of this contest includes a “fan favorites” part. If you are interested in giving me your vote please go to the following link on the main page and search for cjdraper. I submitted more than one photo but the one labeled “Coming Storm” is my personal favorite (see below). At any rate, there are a lot of talented photographers with stunning photos posted so please give someone your love, even if it isn’t me. You are allowed to vote for one photo per day. The open voting ends August 26th. Thanks!

I am a scientist by trade and artist by soul. My creative outlet used to be dancing but due to injuries and age, I must now find another path. I am hoping my writing, poetry and photography can be this new path. Awards: While I am grateful and honored for the numerous nominations, I don’t have time to respond to them with the attention they deserve, so for the most part, I am an award free blog. 1. Done – for today. Coming Storm is my favourite, too – beautifully atmospheric and eerie – but they’re all lovely.
Good luck with this one 🙂

  2. I think I voted… The website was a little glitchy…. btw the direct link to your picture was http://bit.ly/2anGs86

  3. Thank you Philip. Yes, the site is glitchy and that direct link often doesn’t work so thank you for taking the time to vote. I really appreciate it.

  7. You are so talented! I really like your photo. 🙂

The voting requires a facebook account, which I do not have (I choose to live without social media – blogging is my only vice), so consider this my thumbs-up “Like” :).

    Best of luck!

  8. Thank you! I completely appreciate that. I did not do an initial link to my FB account because I don’t like how pushy they are. Insidious is a word I frequently use to describe FB and I am very careful about what I post to mine. I thought there was an option opt out of having a FB account but maybe not. In any case thank you again.

  9. I’m on my mobile, which might be a factor. The site automatically redirected me to sign in to FB each time I tried to vote. I’ll try again when I have access to a different device. 🙂

  10. Thank you but please don’t go to too much trouble. I do not want to be a pest.
FYI, I love what you do too. You are very talented writer and you handle delicate subjects very gracefully not to mention you always make me chuckle. You are seriously funny without making the subject matter a joke.

  13. Given the Weather Channel’s interest in weather [what a surprise!], *Coming Storm* is especially appropriate for this contest. I voted for it today; maybe can get past the website’s glitchiness to vote for 1 or 2 others on other days. The direct link to *Coming Storm* is very helpful. For those who missed Philip Wardlow’s comment, it is http://bit.ly/2anGs86

The website displays how many votes each photo has so far, with obvious strategic implications for a voter more interested in having some influence on the outcome than in trying to express all the details of his/her feelings about all the photos.

On the subject of self-promotion … Tho he was not an Old Testament prophet, John L Lewis looked a little like one and on at least occasion sounded a little like one:
He who tooteth not his own horn:
his horn shall not be tooted.

  15. Stunning picture, full of drama! I do love silhouettes in photography (have tried a few of my own) and also trees are always fascinating to photograph…a lot like people! 🙂 I voted on your picture, but not entirely certain it was working though.
