I am a scientist by trade and artist by soul. My creative outlet used to be dancing but due to injuries and age, I must now find another path. I am hoping my writing, poetry and photography can be this new path.
Awards: While I am grateful and honored for the numerous nominations, I don’t have time to respond to them with the attention they deserve, so for the most part, I am an award free blog.

Oh, Katrina! Caused the sun to set on a lot of things. But, the sun also rises, and with it a new beginning. Katrina did a number on a bunch of my friends and family. But they’re rising again.

Yes, I am so glad to see New Orleans – the whole Gulf Coast actually, return. We are very resilient people. Unfortunately in my case, our relationship did not survive nor did one of the few remaining fish camps we called paradise. Yet the sun does still rise for me….

That’s what’s most important! Where was your camp? I lived in New Orleans for some time and have gone back and forth since. Then when I met my wife, it turned out her mom lived in Long Beach, MS. Been a regular of the coast for 30 + years now. New Orleans is leaps ahead of MS coast, but it’s getting there. The landscape though? Won’t be the same in my lifetime.

This camp was on Hayne Blvd. just past Little Woods across for Cast Net Seafood. I think the octagon down past LW was the only survivor. There used to be 100’s of camps but since CSX won’t allow rebuilds they have all disappeared. I was going back and forth at the time too. My house in FL was smacked by Ivan 9 months prior so I was a little shell shocked after Katrina. I have been here on and off since ’84 and permanently since ’89. Yep, landscape will forever be different and it’s not all bad.

It was magical. New Orleans is always magical ….it must be the French influence!

Not too familiar with that area, but I think if I’m correct it’s on Ponchetrain? We take 90 from Long Beach into Chalmette/East New Orleans pretty regularly and the area along the Lake is still devastated. It’s especially sad for those of us that knew it before Katrina, to see it now, even 10 years later. Speaking of CSX, we have our own issues with them. One of their trains resulted in my mother-in-laws death five years ago. She survived Katrina, barely, only to be killed by a train. 😕

Oh no, that is so sad! That’s the kind of thing that makes you wonder about the universe. Yes, this was just before the casino and Pontchartrain airport. The lake topped the levee and laid waste to this area. It is basically the upper 9th ward.

Gotcha. Yeah, that was definitely the hardest hit area. Have friends in New Orleans, Huma, Slidell, and Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, and Long Beach, MS that were devastated too. Quite the tragedy. Hard to believe its been 10 years ago. And, yeah, losing her that way was tough for sure. Very sad. 😕
