I painted the door
To cover the dent
Left by the beer bottle
Meant for my head

I am a scientist by trade and artist by soul. My creative outlet used to be dancing but due to injuries and age, I must now find another path. I am hoping my writing, poetry and photography can be this new path. Lovely colors. A gross situation though.

That doesn’t souns so good. Beers are for drinking, not throwing and pretty heads are for kissing, not throwing beer bottles at.

Glad U exited from that toxic relationship alive, and with spirit bruised but unbroken.
The post manipulates the viewer’s expectations effectively. I see the photo first as a closeup of a surface that looks good in closeup, like a lichen-covered rock or a Pollock painting. Then I start reading the poem and briefly expect something light-hearted like [House that Jack Built] or [There Was an Old Lady …]. The poem turns dark, swiftly and seamlessly. Then I revisit the photo and see the dent. Masterful.

Thank you. It is truly my front door. I painted it to look like copper patina.

He was a bit tortured in his own right. That is enough.
